About Mrs Carmen Nell

Mrs Nell received her BEd degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2012. She then furthered her studies in Educational Psychology, graduating in 2014.

Mrs Nell had the pleasure of teaching both primary school as well as high school pupils before joining St Catherine’s Preparatory School in January 2016.

Mrs Nell teaches Grade 4 to 7 Natural Science. She is passionate about Science as it allows pupils to explore their world and to discover new things. She believes that Science is everywhere; that pupils are growing up in an increasingly technologically and scientifically advanced world, and therefore they need to be scientifically literate to be able to succeed. In her Science lessons she encourages pupils to question why things work and how they work, often carrying out hands-on experiments and activities to answer these questions.

A quote that has inspired Mrs Nell’s teaching comes from BF Skinner, who said, ‘Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.’

Outside of school Mrs Nell loves spending time with her friends and family, especially her son Tristan. They enjoy the outdoors with their three dogs, Vanilla, Coco and Chai. Mrs Nell also loves travelling and discovering new adventures.
